Wi-Me
is a simple program for sending SMS and MMS
messages from your Apple computer to a mobile phone. It uses
your regular email program and account to send your message. You
can send SMS messages and in some cases MMS messages with picture
attachments. Wi-Me
is currently set up for use with certain US carriers.
Why would you want to do this? Perhaps because
you're clever and frugal (not to mention good looking and charming)
and see no reason to pay an additional charge to send the message
when they're already charging you to receive it.
Many SMS widgets and other programs like
this use their own gateways to send the message and charge you a
fee to pass through that gateway. Wi-Me
uses your own email and the mail2sms/mms gateways
of the major carriers to deliver your message to your own or your
friends' phones. By using your own email accounts that are set up
in the Apple mail program, you avoid secondary pass through fees.
This initial version of
Wi-Me is freeware.
